Because Spider-man is my favorite superhero, I had to take the time out to watch the new reboot on opening day.  I must admit, I had low expectations when I first heard of it, but then the commercials and the stuff I read about it made it seem like it wouldn’t be too bad.  I was definitely excited for Gwen Stacy as the main female and it seemed like they actually got Spidey’s original personality right this time.
After a few hours of thinking it over I will say that I really liked it.  No, not a Christopher Nolan masterpiece, but definitely better than Spider-man 3.  I still can’t decide where to place it compared to 1 & 2 (yes, it was this good; but 2 might have to stay my favorite).
What really stood out for this one was that it actually felt like the comic book in movie format - the actors made you believe they were in high school and the plot was filled with awkwardness, puppy love, angst, nerdy humor.  It didn’t feel like Sam Raimi’s “here’s spider-man, but with a classic big box-office twist”.
But on to more pressing matters, I can’t decide which I prefer - Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy or Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson?
